Morris Recreation Center

The MRC provides open recreation opportunities to encourage you to work out, challenge yourself on the climbing wall or partake in friendly competition in a variety of sports.

Opened in 2003, the recreation center is named in honor of Dr. Jerry D. Morris, the ninth President of East Texas State University (East Texas A&M). Dr. Morris served the university effectively for over 27 years and as President from 1987 to 1997. His commitment to developing the talent of faculty, staff, and students, and his dedication to the importance of community relations is an enduring tribute to all who enter these doors. Dr. Morris’s portrait hangs in the lobby.

The MAC

Opened in 2017, the Multi-Activity Court (MAC) has the capabilities for a full single court or can be sectioned into three smaller courts by a divider system. It has an open seating area with an overhead awning for watching activities, studying, hosting special events, or having an office meeting as well as restrooms and a water fountain. Most importantly it serves multiple recreational opportunities including:

  • Open recreation such as arena soccer, futsal, and volleyball
  • Intramural sports
  • Group fitness classes
  • Personal training sessions
  • Special events

POOL AREA

This is the perfect place to relax by the pool, shoot hoops, or splash your friends. The aquatics program continually offers a variety of programs and activities throughout the season so the members of the East Texas A&M community can maintain a healthy lifestyle and have fun while enjoying the outdoors.

Whatever recreational or competitive sports you choose, our outdoor spaces will help you move. We often see open rec play, club sports practices, and Intramural Sports championships being won at the Cain Sports Complex.

Outdoor Adventure Center

The Outdoor Adventure Center is the home of the Outdoor Adventure program. Located down past the Cain Sports Complex, it hosts a program support facility, bike and hike trail, disc golf course, hammock grove, and challenge course with high and low elements.

Policies and Procedures

If you are a current East Texas A&M student or faculty/staff member with a Campus Rec membership or day pass:

Sign in to recportal.xiaoneizhi.com and log in with your ETAMU SSO, or download the ETAMU Campus Rec App on Google Play or the Apple App Store.

If you are a current or expired Campus Rec member without ETAMU SSO authentication:

  1. Go to recportal.xiaoneizhi.com
  2. Click on the link “Sign In” top right
  3. Enter your username or email
  4. Enter your password
  5. If you don't know your username and/or password, click on “Trouble Logging In?” on this screen.
  6. Enter the email address that was used when you first created your MRC membership.
  7. Select either Recover Username or Reset Password.
  8. If you do not know your email address or receive an error message, contact the MRC front desk at 903.468.3181 or email Mark Spellmire. This error occurs because we do not have an email on file or a username has not been created. MRC Member Services can assist with both of these problems.

    Creating an account on the recportal (for non-current ETAMU students/faculty/staff or current/expired members)

    1. Go to recportal.xiaoneizhi.com
    2. Click on the link “Sign In” top right
    3. Click on “Sign Up” next to don’t have an account.
    4. Go through the prompts to create an account.
    5. Note: Guests are not able to create an account and then purchase a membership for the first time. They will still need to come into the MRC to verify their information and get an ID card.

    • All Campus Rec members must have a valid and current Lion Card or Campus Rec ID Card for entry into the facility during recreation hours.
    • Students must use their own valid Lion Card and members must use their own valid Campus Rec Card. ID cards are non-transferable and for the exclusive use of the person named on the card. Any individual in possession of another's card and the owner of the said card will be escorted out and asked to leave the facility. All parties involved in an ID pass-back situation will be suspended from Campus Recreation for one week from the incident. All parties involved are responsible for scheduling a meeting with the Assistant Director of Facility Operations and Aquatics before a suspension is lifted. Repeat offenders are subject to referral to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
    • Guests must possess and display identification upon request.
    • A valid government photo ID is required to purchase a day pass.
    • All guests entering the facility must sign a waiver.
    • Guests who are 15 years and younger must be accompanied and actively supervised by a parent or guardian at all times including in the locker rooms.
    • Guests ages 5 and under are allowed to enter the locker rooms with their guardians regardless of gender. Guests ages 6 and above must go through their respective locker rooms to access the pool. Campus Recreation staff will assist in escorting minors through the locker room to meet their guardians on the other end when necessary.
    • Campus Recreation reserves the right to request identification from a participant at any time they are using our facilities, programs or services.
    • If the photo, name or ID number(s) is not visible on a Lion Card, the card is not considered valid and entry will be refused.
    • There is a five to one ratio requirement for youth to adults per group. Groups greater than 10 will not be allowed in the building without prior reservation.

    Patrons are expected to be courteous to other Facility users and employees and to follow the rules, policies, and safety instructions outlined by Campus Recreation. Patrons who engage in behaviors or actions that might damage equipment or facilities, or pose a threat to the safety and well-being of themselves or others may lose their privileges. The staff and patrons of Campus Recreation appreciate your cooperation in making our facilities a friendly and positive environment for recreational and social opportunities.

    Inappropriate behavior which is not to be tolerated includes (list not all-inclusive):

    • Obscene, profane, bias, discriminatory gestures, actions, and language
    • Verbal, mental, or physical abuse or harassment of staff or patrons

    The Campus Recreation Staff reserves the right to deny entry or remove patrons from the building for violating any of the Campus Recreation policies and [procedures. University Police will be contacted when necessary.

    Any incident occurring within Campus Recreation facilities or sponsored events will require an in-person meeting with Campus Recreation professional staff members.

    Guidelines

    • This policy is in place to protect the rights and privacy of our patrons.
    • Personal use is defined as media of yourself, friends, or family obtained informally for personal/private use.
    • Taking pictures or recording videos are permitted in the Morris Recreation Center and its' outdoor spaces for personal use only. All photography and videography are strictly prohibited in restrooms and locker rooms.
    • Taking photos or videos of identifiable individuals without their consent is prohibited, must be deleted, and is cause for immediate removal from the facility and could result in possible suspension from our facilities.
    • The personal privacy of patrons must be respected. You must have the explicit permission of every person who may be identified in any photo or video. Photography/videography of minors (individuals under the age of 18) requires the permission of a parent or guardian. Patrons have the right to decline.
    • Tripods, cameras, video cameras, and other large media equipment are not permitted without prior approval from the Associate Director.

    Anyone in violation is subject to immediate removal from the facility and potential loss of recreational privileges.

    • The Campus Recreation Department is not responsible for any loss of property. It is suggested that valuables be stored in lockers.
    • Personal Items and bags are not allowed in the Cardio and Weight Room area. They are also not allowed in the climbing facility when outside hours of operation. Please utilize one of our many locker options to store your belongings.
    • Due to university policy, items recovered within the facility will be kept for a maximum of 30 days before being donated to charity. The Department of Campus Recreation is not responsible for any lost possessions.
    • University Policy – Disposition of Abandoned and Unclaimed Personal Property

    General

    • Attire:
      • Closed-toe footwear is required in the weight room and cardio equipment area at all times.
      • Hard-soled footwear must be worn throughout the facility except in the locker rooms and pool area.
      • Chest, buttocks, and groin must be covered in non-see-through material.
      • While outside (basketball courts & MAC) buttocks and groin must be covered in non-see-through material.
      • Specifications are based on a person in the upright position, we understand that reaching overhead or movement may shift apparel.
      • These policies are in place to help reduce disease/infection risk, prolong equipment life, and provide a safe, welcoming environment for all patrons.
      • Campus Recreation staff may ask members to change or leave the facility if attire is not met.
    • Only authorized service animals are permitted in our facilities.
    • The possession, use, charging, and storage of electric micro-mobility devices, i.e., e-scooters, e-bikes, hoverboards, uni-wheels, etc. is prohibited in all campus-owned properties.
    • Please leave all areas clean.
    • Food is only permitted in the lounge area located in the front lobby of the building.
    • Plastic bottles with re-sealable caps are allowed in the facility and pool area.
    • Lock up bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards, and scooters outside of the facility.
    • Weapons are strictly prohibited.
    • Participants are financially responsible for any loss or damage to equipment while it is in their possession, including equipment used by a sponsored guest.
    • Equipment not returned (or equipment damaged) is subject to replacement charge(s). Replacement charges are dependent upon item(s) not being returned/damaged.
    • Headphones are required for any personal stereos/music.
    • The possession, use, charging and storage of self-balancing hoverboards, scooters or bikes are prohibited in all campus-owned and leased properties.
    • Alcohol, drugs, and tobacco, including vapor and e-cigarettes, are strictly prohibited.
    • Equipment must be checked out at the front desk and by someone who is 18 years of age or older.
    • Maximum of four people in racquetball courts unless playing Wallyball. At no time should patrons be standing at opposite ends of the racquetball court hitting/throwing balls at each other.
    • Building supervisors have the authority to ask patrons to leave for failure to abide by any facility policies and/or failure to exercise proper weight room etiquette.

    Track

    • Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday: use the track clockwise. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday: use the track counterclockwise.
    • Walkers will use the inside lane while runners will use the outside lanes. Please be mindful of your surroundings and the current day of the week for track direction.
    • Please refrain from spitting on the track or in the water fountains (including gum)
    • Do not use the rails to stretch before, during, or after your workout. Stretching areas with mats are provided for your safety.
    • No accessories or fitness equipment are to be used on the track.
    • At no time should patrons be idle on the track. Spectating is discouraged as it's a safety hazard to others utilizing the track.

    Weight Room and Fitness Floor

    • No one under the age of 16 is allowed to use the fitness equipment unless they are a current registered East Texas A&M student
    • Do not operate any equipment that looks damaged or has loose parts. If repair is needed for any equipment, notify a staff member as soon as possible. Do not attempt to fix or repair anything
    • Please wipe down the equipment after use. Please use cleaning wipes located throughout the fitness area to clean the equipment after use
    • For your safety, no gym bags or backpacks are allowed in the Weight Room and Cardio Areas. Day lockers should be utilized and are in the hallways and locker rooms
    • Beverages in re-sealable plastic containers are permitted
    • The use of collars is mandatory on all free-weight bars
    • Spotters are suggested for all exercises such as squatting and bench press
    • Re-rack your weights
    • Maintain control of weights when lowering to the floor
    • No equipment should be moved from its designated area or to the track
    • Please refrain from performing exercises on the ramps between each level. This is a safety hazard to other patrons
    • For your own safety, always use caution while utilizing the equipment.
    • Chalk is not permitted in the weight roo
    • Dropping weights is only allowed on the Olympic platforms, everywhere else is prohibited
    • Personal training can only occur through trainers certified and employed by Campus Recreation

    Activity Room

    • The activity room is closed for informal use if a class or reserved event is in progress.
    • Due to the inherent risk of injury by joining a session after missing the warm-up, participants may not enter a group fitness class five minutes after the class has started.
    • The stereo box is for Campus Rec/Fitness staff use only.
    • Utilize cleaning wipes to wipe down equipment after use
    • When using a spin bike, utilize a black mat underneath.
    • Utilize a mat if you are utilizing exercise equipment on the wood floor.
    • The activity room door must remain closed and unlocked.
    • Keep fire exits inside and outside of the activity room clear.
    • Personal belongings should go inside the cubbies provided. If personal belongings do not fit in a cubby, utilize a day locker.
    • Patrons who damage equipment will be responsible for replacement costs.
    • Personal music is permitted but must not disturb others in adjacent spaces
    • Patrons are not allowed to take equipment out of this room
    • Do not enter the room until the prior event has completely left the room

    Basketball Courts

    • Please use proper etiquette when in the gymnasium.
    • Courts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Patrons will not be asked to leave or move to accommodate other sports unless there is a reservation.
    • Goals and/or divider curtains will be raised/lowered at the discretion of the Building Supervisor on duty
    • Dunking is allowed; however, please do not hang on the rims. Any damage to the equipment resulting from this will be incurred by the responsible individual or party.
    • Hitting, kicking, or bouncing soccer balls, basketballs, or any other piece of equipment is not permitted. This may cause damage to walls or sprinkler systems.
    • Priority is given to previously scheduled activities and may interfere with open rec play.
    • For your safety, always exercise extreme caution when using the gymnasium.
    • Building supervisors have the authority to ask patrons to leave for failure to abide by any facility policies and/or failure to exercise proper etiquette.

    • Climbing is inherently dangerous, always exercise caution while climbing or belaying.
    • Climbers must check in at the desk before using the climbing or bouldering wall.
    • Climbers must have a current signed waiver on file.
    • All lead climbers must have a current lead climbing certification.
    • All belayers must have a current belay check.
    • Only boulder on the bouldering wall.
    • Headphones are not allowed in the climbing area.
    • Climbers must be completely dry.
    • Must have an adult present if under 16.
    • Be aware of climbers' fall and swing zones.
    • Use clear communication between the climber and the belayer.

    General guidelines

    • All MRC general policies and regulations apply.
    • All patrons 15 and under must be accompanied and closely supervised by a parent or legal guardian.
    • Food is only allowed with a reservation. Under the reservation, food and drink are ONLY allowed under the pavilion, on the upper spa deck, or at the tables on the lower deck.
    • Only approved reservations can bring in a cooler. Coolers entering the facility are subject to search.
    • Any contraband, including but not limited to, alcohol and tobacco products will require UPD intervention.
    • Approved reservations will assume facility space priority.

    Pool Guidelines

    • No one may enter the pool area without a Campus Recreation Lifeguard present.
    • An adult 18 years of age or older must actively supervise and be within arm's reach of children under the age of 6 and/or children who require a lifejacket.
    • Only U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal life jackets are permitted for patrons who require a lifejacket.
    • The Emergency Alert System is ONE LONG WHISTLE blast. All patrons must exit the pool and outdoor area immediately upon hearing one long whistle blast.
    • Water-based attire and bathing suit material swimwear are required at all times.
    • All patrons should shower before entering the water.
    • Aquatic staff have the responsibility to enforce policies and the authority to remove anyone for unsafe or inappropriate behavior.
    • Only feet-first entries are permitted in the recreational pool, spa, lap lanes, and lazy river.
    • For your own safety, always exercise extreme caution when using the pool and spa.
    • Please enter and exit the pool and spa areas slowly.
    • Lanes one through three are reserved for lap swimming.
    • Lap swimmers may be required to circle swim when lanes exceed two patrons.
    • No hanging on lane ropes.
    • All training equipment is to be used in the manner for which it was designed
    • Children who are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper.
    • The use of inflatables, noodles, and inner tubes are to be used for assistance purposes and are up to the discretion of the lifeguard and a building supervisor. These items are prohibited during reservations.
    • Admission to the pool can be refused to anyone with an open sore or appearing to have a contagious or infection condition.
    • Patrons under the influence of alcohol or other drugs that alter awareness are restricted from utilizing Campus Recreation facilities.

    Spa Guidelines

    • Limit spa usage time to 15 minutes and allow at least 5 minutes of cool down before using the spa.
    • Patrons who are pregnant, elderly, or have diabetes, heart disease, abnormal blood pressure, or other serious illnesses should consult a doctor before using the spa.
    • Enter each spa deck using the stairs.

    Prohibited

    • Running shorts, basketball shorts, denim cutoffs, socks, or cotton t-shirts.
    • Climbing over the walls of the spa
    • Horseplay and exhibitions that could jeopardize personal safety or the safety of others
    • Distracting the lifeguard while they are actively engaged in surveillance duties
    • Passing items through the fence
    • Disposable or cloth diapers
    • Flippers that connect the feet
    • Band-aids or casts.
    • Hyperventilation or the holding of one’s breath underwater for an extended period of time
    • Diving
    • Running on the pool or spa deck
    • Glass containers
    • Gum
    • Obscene, biased, vulgar, disrespectful, discriminatory, or sexually oriented language
    • Alcohol, controlled substances, vapor devices, and all forms of tobacco
    • Use of body lotions or tanning oils
    • Open wounds or infectious diseases in the pool

    For safety reasons:

    • The outdoor area will close if the outside temperature is 44 degrees F and below.
    • The pool will close if the pool water temperature is 65 degrees F and below.
    • The spa will close if the spa water temperature is 102 degrees F and above.
    • The pool and spa will close for chemical imbalances but will reopen once appropriate levels are reached.
    • If there is inclement weather the pool and spa will close.

    Anyone in violation is subject to immediate removal from the facility and potential loss of recreational privileges.

    General

    • General field use is for ETAMU students, faculty, and staff.
    • Patrons, players, and spectators assume their own risk.
    • Field reservations are made through Campus Recreation.
    • Fields are first come, first serve when not reserved or in use by Campus Recreation programs.
    • Organized activities and external groups must reserve fields. (Fees may apply)
    • Leave the fields, courts, spectators, and surrounding areas clean.
    • Leash, supervise and clean up after your pet.
    • Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items.

    Prohibited

    • Obscene, vulgar, disrespectful, discriminatory, or sexually-oriented language
    • Alcohol, controlled substances, vapor devices, and all forms of tobacco
    • Parking or driving vehicles on fields
    • Fireworks without approval
    • Golfing, except on bottom fields
    • Glass containers
    • Using fields with standing water
    • Tampering with field equipment

    Anyone in violation is subject to immediate removal from the facility and potential loss of recreational privileges.

    • Players, coaches, and spectators should express proper sportsmanship and gamesmanship.

    • Return checked-out equipment before leaving the facility.
    • Organized activities and external groups must reserve fields. (Fees may apply)
    • Court reservations are made through Campus Recreation.
    • Leave the courts, spectators and surrounding areas clean.
    • Campus Recreation staff will determine if the playing surface is safe before, during and after inclement weather.

    Prohibited

    • Obscene, vulgar, disrespectful, discriminatory, or sexually-oriented language
    • Tampering with netting and court equipment
    • Alcohol, controlled substances, vapor devices, and all forms of tobacco
    • Beverages in a non-sealable container
    • Pets on the tennis court
